A couple of weeks ago I had gone to the Island of Tinos for a presentation on issues regarding the web promotion of travel and tourism web sites.
The way to go to Tinos is either from Rafina or from Piraeus port. We went from the port of Rafina with the new high speed boats. Its a quick ride with the boat.
Tinos is one of the places most Greeks visit, mostly for the Virgin Mary Church which is called in Greek “Panagia tis Tinou” and celebrates with thousands of people on August 15. The Island of Tinos has numerous things to see and do. It has wonderful beaches. Lots of beautiful site seeing to do. Museums. Trekking, hiking, cross country running. Local traditional things to see. The island also hosts a school of the Athens University, which deals with marble and sculpture. You won’t feel how time passed on Tinos. I almost forgot – the food is something else!
Well, getting back on track. The purpose of the trip, as I said earlier, was to give a presentation. The people locally had arranged for the invitations and the hall we were to give this presentation. So getting off the boat the first thing to do was to go to the presentation hall, set up our gear and make sure things were working.
Well we were into a big surprise! The wonderful people of Tinos had arrange for this presentation to take place at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos. A beautiful neoclassical building which was fully (I mean FULLY) renovated, located on the sea side, 2 min walk from the boat we got off.
Once we got there they offered us local treats and drinks.
The classical architecture and the marble blended with the high tech facilities in such a way that we were anxious to see the rest of the building. Besides the conference hall, capacity of 350 participants, fully equipped with anything you can imagine and desire, the rest of the facility had two exhibition halls, a cultural cafe, a research center and a book store.
Our event worked out just fine…I would even dare say…better from a lot of place that claim to be.
If you want to host a congress, meeting an event and you want to do it somewhere different, then the place to go is to the Island of Tinos and the Cultral Foundation of Tinos. Visit their site … it’s just a peak…what it has to offer is much more.
